Knotenpunkt

My intention was it to create a ma- terial connection that can offer any shape, without degrading the material. It should not be screwed, glued or drilled.

I was inspired by Chinese scaffolding made from bamboo. Only bamboo sticks and string are used to build gigantic structures and when the building is finished, the sustainable material is reused for another project. With Papanek’s teaching and his thoughts on “Normadic Fur- niture” in mind, I tried to transfer the modu- larity of Chinese scaffolding to furniture. The focus is not on the material bamboo, but on a connecting element that equips a rope with the necessary tension to create struc- tures for furniture. This tensioning device is the actual “Knotenpunkt”. The idea is that with the kit of discarded wood and the node, any furniture can be assembled and dismantled as required.
